RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES - PRESENT AND FUTURE

A panel on the topic " Renewable Energy Sources - present and future’’ was held within the "Six Days of Electrical Engineers of the Engineers Chamber of Montenegro, in which Ivan Asanović, Executive director of Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem, took part. He introduced the attendees to the influence of electricity producers from high-power renewable sources on the transmission system. The installed power of thermal power plants in the region is about 40 GW. To replace them with generation from renewable sources, the power of new generation facilities should be five to six times higher, which means that the transmission network should also adapt to these capacities. In the past ten years, Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem has practically doubled its capacities. One of the most important projects is the Montenegro-Italy electricity transmission system interconnection. The projects of no less relevance are the modernization of control and protection in substations and the SCADA system implementation project, which enables modern and efficient controlling.

To allow the connection of the high-power RES producers, there are two-direction plans such as reinforcement of the electricity transmission infrastructure and the system control development, considering that CGES is responsible for the system stability at the state level, concluded Asanović.
